Marvel have just chosen the man that will helm their biggest project to date, The Avengers. Buffy The Vampire Slayer creator, and all-round fanboy favourite Joss Whedon will direct only his second feature in the film that will assemble the biggest names in the Marvel universe.

Robert Downey Jr., Samuel L Jackson, Ed Norton, Chris Hemsworth and Chris Evans will all be appearing in the film that is expected to have the biggest budget of any comic adaptation ever made - not to be sniffed at when you consider Spiderman 3 cost $300 million. In the flick, currently been written by Zak Penn, the premiership of Marvel heroes, Iron Man, The Hulk, Thor and Captain America will tackle a force of staggering magnitude, who they could only defeat by teaming up.

Whedon helmed  the hugely enjoyable Serenity, which was the cinematic incarnation of his cult, short-lived series, Firefly. He's known for his ability to direct ensemble casts (which he has done innumerable times on TV), and has worked for Marvel before in their comic runs of X-Men. Looking forward to seeing what he does with this.
