Tron: Legacy may not have been everyone's cup of tea, but there's no denying that its soundtrack was excellent and, visually at least, it looked pretty stunning.

Director Joseph Kosinski's eye for detail and design followed through on Oblivion, and the upcoming firefighter drama Only The Brave seems a good deal more realistic and grounded than anything he's done before. Still, Tron: Legacy is the film he's consistently remembered for - so it's no surprise that any interview he's done, the prospect of a third Tron film is brought up.

In an interview with ComingSoon.net, Kosinski gave a status update on Tron: Ascension and it's not looking good, to say the least. The last we heard was that Jared Leto was involved and was eager to get the film up and running, but the reality is that it's going nowhere fast. According to Kosinski, "Jared’s a huge fan and we actually batted around ideas and I was talking to him about (a) role in Ascension, but we only got to the script stage on that."

"We never really moved beyond that and that’s sort of where it sits for now," said Kosinski. It's no surprise that a third Tron film isn't exactly a high priority for Disney. While it wasn't exactly a flop, Tron: Legacy only made $400 million worldwide against a production budget of $170 million and a 51% Rotten Tomatoes score.

The only people clamouring for a third Tron movie is either fans of the original, people who liked the sequel and that Tron costume guy.
