Jordan Peele, the mastermind behind recent horror classics 'Get Out' and 'Us', has released the first trailer for his new film 'Nope'.
'Nope' sees Peele reunite with Oscar-winner Daniel Kaluuya, with the pair working together on Peele's debut hit 'Get Out', with Keke Palmer and Steven Yeun also starring in the film.
The trailer is classic Peele fare; an off-kilter tone is established, a classic song is reworked, and most importantly, we're left knowing scant little about the film.
The basic premise of the film appears to revolve around Keke Palmer being involved in the film industry in some capacity, something is spooking the horses on the ranch, and the sky is acting up.
We see the cast of characters looking up towards the sky as a cloud descends upon a town and a character asks "what's a bad miracle?"
Peele is working with Christopher Nolan's cinematographer Hoyte Van Hoytema on 'Nope', and the trailer has some sweeping, dramatic shots, including a Kubrick-esque crane shot.
There's another Kubrick tribute in the trailer: the films title and Peele's name are introduced with the title scroling down from the top of the screen, similar to the opening credits of 'The Shining'.
After the trailer, we're left with more questions than answers, and it's refreshing to see a trailer that doesn't give much away in an era where trailers have a bad habit of revealing everything in the film.
Peele has already established himself as a brand behind the camera, with shots from 'Get Out' and 'Us' instantly becoming horror film staples, such as the Sunken Place sequence in 'Get Out' or the red jumpsuits from 'Us'.
Formerly one half of comedy duo Key and Peele, Peele took the world of cinema by storm in 2017 with 'Get Out', becoming the rare horror film to receive Oscar attention, with Peele taking home the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay in the process.
The comedian turned horror maestro has been busy apart from directing, with Peele hosting the current 'Twilight Zone' revival and having a screenplay credit on last year's 'Candyman' remake.
'Nope' is scheduled for release on July 22nd.
