Everyone loves a summer horror flick, and our very own Oscar nominee has a new release that looks right up our street.
Fresh from her Oscar nomination from earlier this week, Jessie Buckley stars in the teaser trailer for Alex Garland's upcoming horror film 'Men'.
Arriving in cinemas this May, the eerie title will see the Killarney native play a woman who ventures to the English countryside for some rest and relaxation. Unfortunately, however, she feels that there's a sinister presence following her, and she begins to feel enveloped by an overwhelming feeling of dread.
The teaser trailer focuses solely on Jessie Buckley's character Hunter, but 'Men' will also star Rory Kinnear (Bill Tanner from Daniel Craig's Bond series), and Paapa Essiedu ('I May Destroy You', 'Gangs of London').
Having writer and director Alex Garland attached to the project will be exciting news for fans of the creator. Garland previously helmed other slightly unhinged projects including 'Ex Machina', 'Annihilation' and the TV mini-series 'Devs'.
Jessie Buckley has been a rising star in Hollywood for quite some time, and earlier this week she finally received her very first Oscar nomination for her role in Maggie Gyllenhaal's 'The Lost Daughter'. With a hugely varied CV under her belt, she's starred in everything from the sinister ('I'm Thinking of Ending Things', 'Fargo'), to the musically-minded ('Wild Rose', 'Judy'). She'll next star opposite Francis McDormand, Rooney Mara, Claire Foy and Ben Whishaw in 'Women Talking', expected later this year.
The synopsis for 'Men' is as follows: "In the aftermath of a personal tragedy, Harper (Buckley) retreats alone to the beautiful English countryside, hoping to have found a place to heal. But someone or something from the surrounding woods appears to be stalking her. What begins as simmering dread becomes a fully-formed nightmare, inhabited by her darkest memories and fears in Garland’s feverish, shape-shifting new horror film."
Here's the teaser.
'Men' currently has a release date in theatres of May 20, 2022.
