It's a real shame that Jena Malone won't make it into the theatrical release of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, even moreso after hearing this.
The actress, who previously starred in Zack Snyder's Sucker Punch, Inherent Vice, The Hunger Games and our personal favourite, Contact, was cut from the film due to running length issues. However, information has leaked online which confirms the previously-secretive role that Malone plays in the upcoming blockbuster.
Her character and scenes will be in the Blu-Ray edition of the film, but if you don't want to know anything about Batman V Superman, look away now.

Still here? OK, great. Jena Malone will be playing Barbara Gordon, the daughter of Commissioner Gordon and future Batgirl / Oracle. The news, believe it or not, came via a marketing survey which stated Jena Malone's character as such. We know from recent reports that JK Simmons will be playing the role of Commissioner Gordon in the Justice League movie, but as to what role Barbara Gordon plays is anyone's guess.
What's interesting is that Barbara Gordon becomes paraplegic when shot by the Joker in the comics, specifically Alan Moore's genuinely disturbing The Killing Joke. Up until then, Barbara Gordon was Batgirl. However, when she was wheelchair-bound, she became Oracle - an all-knowing, all-seeing information specialist.
Whether Zack Snyder follows this particular iteration of the character is anyone's guess. It's pretty likely that he won't, considering he's turning most of the established characters on their head and rewriting them for a new era. Regardless of all this, we'll see how Jena Malone fares as Barbara Gordon when Batman V Superman hits the home market in a few months time.
Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice hits our screens on March 25th.
