Over the first weekend of the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival, we were lucky to get some sit down time with two of the folks who were coming over the visit the city for the fest.
First up, we met up with the legendary John Hurt. Most will know him from the likes of V For Vendetta, the Harry Potter movies, Doctor Who, The Elephant Man and so much more, but perhaps most famously, he was popped open from the inside in Alien. In fact, we noticed that we had an Alien t-shirt on for the interview! A man of such experience that only ten minutes in his company felt far too short, but he did manage to drop some tidbits of info about upcoming projects - he thinks Snowpiercer is fantastic, and he is no longer involved in Guillermo Del Toro's TV series The Strain - as well as chatting about his latest movie Only Lovers Left Alive.
After that, we had a nice sit down chat with the fantastic screenwriter Peter Morgan. He was the man responsible for movies such as The Queen, Frost/Nixon, Rush, The Last King Of Scotland and more. He talked to us about his craft, his own opinions on his own movies, as well as giving some scoops about his career - he was almost involved in Skyfall, and he wrote an aborted version of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy - before giving some advice to potential writers. Afterwards, he informed us that he was also involved in a movie version of Hugh Hefner's life (which has been cancelled by the man in the housecoat himself), as well as working with Ang Lee on his upcoming Ali / Fraser boxing movie. Then he told us a story about Steven Spielberg and Clint Eastwood, but unfortunately swore us to secrecy about it..... Sorry, we guess that is a bit of a tease...
