Ah Jason Statham. We probably know him best as The Transporter or your man from Lock Stock And Two Smoking Barrels, but he's soon to be known as the fella who filled in for Daniel Craig, when he takes over from the Bond actor in the follow up to Layer Cake.
As per Deadline, it seems Danny Boy won't be reprising his role as the nameless fella in author J.J. Connolly's next big screen adaptation, although we can't help but wonder if that has something to do with the fact that Statham and his producing partner Steve Chasman have acquired the actual rights to the whole thing and will be producing the movie themselves...
Viva La Madness (we're sure it will be) follows the original anti-hero on a bit of an adventure as he attempts to find somewhere to retire in peace. Of course, as you do, he ends up in the middle of a trans-Atlantic drug deal, a bit of money laundering and some fraud.
We do think it's a bit of a pity, because we'd rather like to see Mr Craig doing something other than Bond too. Sure, he's been on the Broadway stage with the missus, but we rather enjoyed his turn in Layer Cake and can't help but wonder how Mr Statham will handle the character.
Has he got what it takes to fill Craig's shoes?
