Jake Gyllenhaal, Paul Dano and Bill Nighy will star in the new film to be produced by Netflix and Brad Pitt's Plan B production company.
Snowpiercer director Bong Joon Ho will direct the $50 million budgeted Okja, which will be the most expensive Korean film ever made - Snowpiercer cost $42 million.
The plot details are thus far scarce, but the broad outline is that the film is about a young girl who befriends an animal named Okja. The part of the girl is currently being auditioned.
Gyllenhaal has very much marched by the beat of his own drum of late, while many filmmakers and actors are beginning to transition to the American streaming service on account of creative control and solid budgets.
Snowpiercer was extremely well reviewed, so Ho is the kind of filmmaker Netflix want to be associating with. The Brad Pitt angle doesn't hurt, obviously.
