In the midst of the #OscarsSoWhite controversy, host Chris Rock did what any host, not least a host who's a member of the African American community, should do. He tackled it head on.
He called out Hollywood in spectacular fashion but he also made sure to single out those who thought that a boycott was the best response to the situation, in particular the Smiths.
Rock burned both Jada and Will with the following two jokes on the night:
"Jada boycotting the Oscars is like me boycotting a party in Rihanna's panties. I wasn't invited."
"It's not fair that Will was this good and didn't get nominated. It's also not fair that Will was paid $20 million for Wild Wild West."
Jada responded to Rock's jokes with: "It comes with the territory sweetheart. "
"Hey look, it comes with the territory but we gotta keep it moving. We gotta keep it moving. We gotta keep it moving. There’s a lot of stuff we gotta handle, a lot of stuff in our world right now. We gotta keep it moving."
Keep it moving indeed. It's a vague response that goes in line with the vague goals she hoped to achieve with the whole Oscar boycott in the first place.
