Although he might have lost out to Alden Ehrenreich for the coveted Han Solo role, Jack Reynor's career isn't flagging by any means.
It's been confirmed by Deadline that Reynor will be joining fellow up-and-comers Will Poulter and Ben O'Toole in the cast of Kathryn Bigelow's as-yet untitled film based on the 1967 Detroit Race Riots. Reteaming with Mark Boal, the screenwriter for The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty, Bigelow will take on one of the deadliest riots in recent US history.
The riots, which lasted for five days and claimed the lives of 43 people and injured well over 1,000 people, began in an after-hours nightclub in Detroit and eventually grew to engulf the entire city. The then-governor of Michigan, George Romney (father of US Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney), ordered the mobilisation of the National Guard whilst President Lyndon B. Johnson ordered the 101st Airborne and 82nd Airborne into the city to quell the riots.
Many analysts believed that the deployment of both the National Guard and the US Army into the streets of Detroit escalated violence further, as the National Guardsmen shot and killed eleven rioters during the skirmishes.
It's not yet known what role Jack Reynor will play in the film, however production is expected to begin pretty soon with a 2017 release.
