The men behind the little gold statues are having a knicker fit as people are complaining about their new online voting system. So much so, they've put the voting back by a whole day. Apparently in industry circles, this is a big deal. Sure it could throw the whole thing off! This is the first year - the 85th year - that they've gone for an online option; heretofore, everything was done by ballot paper. Such Oscar buzz has got us thinking, who will get a nod? Who'll be snubbed? If you've been paying attention to our best of lists, you'll be aware by now that we're rooting for Argo, Django Unchained and the likes, while we also know that Lincoln and Zero Dark Thirty which we haven't yet seen will surely get a mention. Les Miserables will probably squeeze a few nominations in there too, what with Hugh Jackman's dreamy vocal tones. Mmm. So too do we predict The Master will find some acknowledgement, even though we're not quite sure it deserves it.
Anyhoo, as per the BBC, the deadline has now been extender to the fourth of January. "By extending the voting deadline we are providing every opportunity available to make the transition to online balloting as smooth as possible," said the academy's chief operating officer, Ric Robertson.
Despite this minor hiccup, we're still getting the nominations a whole two weeks earlier than ever before, so stay tuned 'til January 10th! The awards ceremony itself will be held on February 24th.
In the meantime, time to place a few bets?
