The first images for Jesse Eisenberg's latest film, The Double, (directed by Richard Ayoade (The IT Crowd)) are in. After his outsanding performance as the inaffable lead in The Social Network, it'll be a while before I see Eisenberg as anyone other than Mark Zuckerberg. Still though, Eisenberg is well on his way to elite A-List status with flicks like this and Now You See Me on the way, and credits such as the aforementioned The Social Network, Woody Allen's To Rome With Love and Zombieland behind him. What we're now looking for though, are roles that show him in another light; I think it's fair to say that he's played enough bumbling nerdy types to last a lifetime. Will The Double serve to send Eisenberg down a different route? We'll have to wait and see.
As per Total Film, The Double is an adaptation of Fyodor Dostoevsky acclaimed novel about a buttoned-down bureaucrat (played by Eisenberg) who feels like he's lost his mind when his exact double starts work in the same office. While the book is set in period Russia, Ayoade transfers the story to contemporary America. Eisenberg's character is described as a retiring pushover, while his newfound twin appears to be his polar opposite; he's confident, he's a go-getter, etc.
Expect to see this some time in 2013, the exact date is currently unconfirmed.
