When it was announced that Ben Affleck had been cast as Batman in Batman Vs Superman a million fan boys and girls had blisters on their fingers from the furious keyboard tapping needed to contribute to the, let's face it, pretty one sided debate.
Could this be the reason why Hans Zimmer, who composed the scores for all three of the Dark Knight films and the newest Superman, has not made up his mind whether he wants to score the music for the controversial flick?
Well, no in a word. In fact, Zimmer actually supports the Ben Affleck casting decision. He told Collider that "[Affleck will] be a really good Batman."
"I think he’s become a much more astute actor and I think he’ll make a great Batman, I think he knows exactly what he’s doing. So do I think it’s a good idea? Yes, I think it’s a good idea. I think he’s great casting."
So why is the composer taking his time about committing to the movie?
"It’s creating a bit of a problem in my head right now,” he said. “It’s a different Batman; Christian Bale and what I did with Chris [Nolan], that needs to have its autonomous life. I don’t want to go and now appropriate that and put that into the other Batman."
Zimmer's scores for the Dark Knight series and Man of Steel were universally praised but all of these films were positively anticipated from the get go. It will be interesting to see if he eventually decides to come on board this opinion-dividing project.
Directed by Zack Snyder, Batman Vs. Superman is expected to be released in the US in summer 2015.
