There's been a lot of Oscars' buzz recently, but finally here is some Irish Oscars' news.

Irish animation film 'Late Afternoon' has just made the Oscars' shortlist in the 'Animated Short Film' category. The short animation, which was directed by Louise Bagnall, is now one of 10 in the shortlisted category, which was whittled down from a choice of 81 originally.

'Late Afternoon' made the announcement on their Twitter page last night.

The 'Late Afternoon' team is made up of some stellar Irish members. Director Bagnall, who has previously directed other animation shorts such as 'Loose Ends,' has also worked as character designer on 'Puffin Rock,' a children's TV show narrated by Chris O'Dowd; Fionnula Flanagan, who you'll know from 'The Guard' and 'Waking Ned' is also the voice of Emily, the main character in the short.

'Late Afternoon' follows the story of Emily, who has her afternoon tea and lets her mind wander back into the past. She journeys through her memories, reliving moments from her life. What she discovers there will challenge her in unexpected ways.

The studio involved in the animation of 'Late Afternoon' is none other than Cartoon Saloon. They are the animation studio behind previous Academy Award nominees 'Breadwinner' and 'The Secret of Kells'.

Here's the trailer for 'Late Afternoon,' and here's hoping that we'll have an Irish winner come February.
