Last year's Citadel was a critical smash and featured on a number of Irish critics' best of 2014 lists. Directed by Irishman Ciaran Foy, it saw a US release and reached horror guru Scott Derrickson - the man behind The Exorcism of Emily Rose and Sinister. It's just been announced that Ciaran Foy will now helm the sequel to Sinister, working off Derrickson's screenplay.
How did this come about, you may ask? On Twitter of all places. Scott Derrickson tweeted Foy a while back, gushing over how much loved Citadel and asked to DM (direct-message) him about something. And sure enough, here we are.
Initial thoughts? We were huge fans of Citadel. A rare and intelligent horror film that had tons of atmosphere and an intriguing story to boot. We said it then that, given a real Hollywood budget, Foy could make something truly interesting. Working with Derrickson's script and hopefully a bigger budget than what he had with Citadel seems like a win.
Here's Derrickson's announcement on Twitter:
Sinister 2 news! The script, written by me & @massawyrm, will be directed by the talented Ciaran Foy. I will produce w/Jason Blum @blumhouse
