Time is running out for people to help fund a film made by inspirational Irish director Simon Fitzmaurice who has Motor Neuron Disease; will you help make this dream a reality?
The fundraising deadline for My Name is Emily is Saturday, December 7th when €200,000 must be raised. So far, a very impressive €98,000 has been donated from private donators and through the crowd-funding drive but more funds are needed so that the director can complete the film.
Simon launched the fund-raising campaign, using the site IndieGoGo, on November 7th with Kennedy Films and Newgrange Pictures. They have received the public support of stars of the Irish film world, Colin Farrell, Jim Sheridan and Lenny Abrahamson as well as Sam Neill and Alan Rickman and great encouragement has come from the Irish public too. However, they need one final push to reach the target amount.
In 2008 the young father of five's second short film The Sound of People was screened at the Sundance Film Festival and shortly after he was diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease. His condition now requires him to live on a ventilator but he hasn't let it dominate his life. Showing incredible drive, he completed the script for My Name is Emily using iris-recognition technology.
