Kathryn Bigelow has been named The Director's Guild of America's Best Director for her work on The Hurt Locker, making her the clear frontrunner for Oscar glory. She is the first woman to win the award.
Avatar may have picked up the gongs at The Golden Globes, but The Hurt Locker's success at the DGA's, as well as The Producer's Guild Awards, seems to indicate an industry swing in a different direction. The brilliant George Clooney starring comedy/drama Up In The Air is still very much in with a shout, with co-writer and director Jason Reitman at least poised to pick up a Best Adapted Screenplay gong.
The Oscar Nominations are announced tomorrow, February 1st at 1.30pm Irish time. We'll have the nominations up sharpish, as well as a dedicated Oscar page where you can choose your favourites and win a prize for guessing the most amount of winners.
