The Steven Soderbegh directed, partly Dublin shot action flick Haywire is getting stellar early reviews ahead of its bow in America today - it opened in Ireland on Wednesday.
The Washington Post said that it "stays true to its low-rent B-movie principles, right down to the fast, strong and quietly competent heroine at its centre." While eFilmcritic.com calls it "Beautifully conceived and executed." The film currently stand at a lofty 85% on Rotten Tomatoes, and is expected to open with around $8 million this passing weekend. Given that it's lead is a total unknown and the budget is a smallish $23 million, that wouldn't be a bad return.
I quite enjoyed it, but know that it has really split film critics here down the middle. Gina Carano needs more action work though.
