As previously reported there will be a sequel to The Green Lantern - even though the film bombed at the international box office - which will apparently be "darker."

Despite costing $200 million to produce, the film grossed an underwhelming $114 million in North America and an atrocious $40 million internationally. But funding studio Warner Bros were still impressed with the $53 million opening weekend - thinking it proved there is an audience there for the character. Head honcho Jeff Robinov spewed to The LA Times, "to go forward we need to make it a little edgier and darker with more emphasis on action… And we have to find a way to balance the time the movie spends in space versus on Earth." Reports are saying the studio were extremely unhappy with the job Martin Campbell did on the film, but the problems stemmed more from a script that was moving in too maybe different directions. Also, why have an actor as good with his mouth as Ryan Reynolds, but basically block his cocky charisma?

So there will be a new director, but not star. Reynolds did the best job he could given the circumstances and the movie opened well - which is all a studio can ask of its lead actor.
