Like it or not, the remake and the belated sequel are now Hollywood staples.

This summer has already seen the release of Independence Day: Resurgence, and the Ghostbusters reboot will be hitting screenings on July 15th. But one remake / sequel you're not likely to see any time soon is Goonies 2.

There was some talk about few years back that a sequel to the 1985 cult classic was in the works. Director Richard Donner declared that the project was happening; with the original cast all set to return.

However, in a recent interview with Movieweb.com Corey Feldman contradicted this, and stated that a sequel would definitely not be happening as Donner is too old to take on the project and no one is interested in doing it with a different director. He said "Richard Donner is 87 years old. And it's like, no one really wants to make it without him. He's the driving force behind it. He says it's still alive. But as we all know...When you get to that age, things slow down quite a bit. There is a big possibility that he might not want to keep driving it. So, I think without him, it doesn't happen. And every day that passes, that he doesn't do it, there is less and less chance that it is ever going to happen at all."

So good news for those who didn't want a sequel, and those that did can console themselves by re-watching the original.
