Alex Gibney's no stranger to controversial subjects, whether it's tackling the legacy of Lance Armstrong or Scientology.
In fact, Gibney seems to go out of his way to find these topics and bring them to light in his own, unique way. Although Roger Ailes may not be immediately familiar to people on this side of the planet, the company which he ran for many years definitely should be - Fox News.
Before this, Ailes was a media consultant for the campaigns of Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush. Not only that, he was a close friend of Donald Trump and helped him with debate preparation. In July 2016, former Fox News anchor Gretchen Carlson brought a sexual harassment lawsuit against Ailes, who alleged that he had fired her for rejecting his sexual advances.
Ailes was eventually forced to resign, with Carlson receiving a $20 million settlement. It wasn't the first accusation of sexual harassment against Ailes, either. Megyn Kelly, who recently left Fox News, also came forward with allegations as did some other women.
Gibney's documentary has no set release date as of yet, but it won't be the only film on the topic either. Charles Randolph, who wrote the screenplay for The Big Short with Adam McKay, is working on a new film that'll revolve around Ailes and the women who brought forward for sexual harassment claims against him.
