Harold Ramis has broken his silence on a new Ghostbusters film, 25 years after the brilliant original blew audiences away. Ramis is now a popular filmmaker himself, having directed seminal classics like Groundhog Day and Caddyshack, and would return as Dr. Egon Spengler, as well as produce.
"Dan (Aykroyd) did write a spec GB3 screenplay a few years ago, but no one was motivated to pursue it. Now, 25 years after the original, there seems to be some willingness to proceed and apparently a substantial public appetite for a sequel." He then added, "We'll introduce some new young Ghostbusters, and all the old guys will be in it, too. Think Christopher Lloyd in Back to the Future...GB3 is progressing with plans to shoot next summer and release in 2011.”
So there we have it, it looks like it’s actually happening, with everyone finally on board. Bill Murray was apparently the only hold out, but has been convinced to come back on the strength of the script. Ivan Reitman will also return to direct. Good times.
