Gerard Barrett's career is going from strength to strength.
Following on from Glassland - which has been a major hit with critics and audiences - he's now set up his next film and his first set outside of Ireland.
Brain On Fire is a psychological thriller based on a memoir by Susanah Calahan. It follows her experiences dealing with anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis, a disease which causes memory loss and hallucinations.
If you've watched the TV series Hannibal with Mads Mikkelsen and Hugh Dancy, it's the same disease that one of them got.
Dakota Fanning will play Sunsanah Calahan, whilst Theron will have an as-yet unknown role in the film. Theron is also producing, although it's not yet known which studio will be releasing the film.
Barrett has signed on to direct the adaptation and is expected to begin shooting next year in New York.
