George Clooney is apparently set to write, direct and star in the big-budget "hunt for Nazi-stolen art treasure project" The Monuments Men says Darkhorizons.com (via The Wrap).

Clooney has never directed an "epic" movie before and his biggest budget so far is the retro American Football flick, Leatherheads - also arguably his only failure. According to Dark Horizons, 'Men' would centre on the "team of American and British museum directors, curators, art historians all came together to find and return the treasures which Hitler systematically emptied from the museums and private collections of Europe. The action is set in the last eleven months of the war with the group sometimes working behind enemy lines." Clooney spewed on the possible production, "It’s a fun movie because it could be big entertainment. It’s a big budget, you can’t do it small - it’s landing in Normandy."

Clooney is currently scripting with writing and producing partner, Grant Heslov, so production is a way off yet. He's expected to pick of an Oscar nomination for The Descendants and possibly for his helming work on Ides of March.
