There's another great big book to screen adaptation in the works and Geoffrey Rush and Emily Watson will be smack bang in the middle of it. The veteran actors have just signed on to star in Fox 2000’s adaptation of Markus Zusak’s best-selling novel The Book Thief.
The book tells the tale of Liesel, a spirited young girl who witnesses the horrors of Nazi Germany while in the care of foster parents. She arrives at their home with a stolen book and begins collecting other tomes, learning to read while her stepparents harbor a Jewish refugee under the stairs.
The Hollywood Reporter says French-Canadian actress Sophie Neliss will make her English-language debut as Liesel in this World War II drama, while Rush and Watson will play her stepparents. Downton Abbey's Brian Percival will be at the helm of the film which is due to go into production in Berlin shortly.
