After the unbridled, runaway success that was Frozen, it's no wonder that Disney is keen to get a sequel out in cinemas as fast as humanly possible.
In fact, they're that keen that recording is already set to begin on the sequel in the next month or so. That's according to Jonathan Groff, who played Kristoff in the original film, who made the announcement during a recent interview with EW. "I think I just got an email yesterday where I’m about to go into the recording studio in a couple of weeks, or maybe a month?" he said. "They’re about to really get into the thick of recording it, which I’m excited about. I don’t know anything about it yet other than I’m about to start recording my section of it."
There's already a sequel-of-sorts on its way to cinemas with Olaf's Frozen Adventure set to play before screenings of Coco, however Frozen 2 is tentatively scheduled for a November 27, 2019 release.
Frozen was a smash-hit for Disney, making $1.2 billion worldwide at the box-office against a production budget of $150 million and that's not even counting the amount of money made from the endless stream of merchandise and licensing that went out from the film either. In fact, Frozen has now become the highest-grossing animated film of all time, the third-highest grossing original film of all time, and the ninth highest-grossing film of all time.
So, yeah, the sequel has a lot to live up to.
