The official trailer has dropped for ‘A Dog’s Way Home’ and if you can’t get enough of puppers, pooches and dogs, you won’t be able to resist it.
The film is reflective of a current trend where movies about dogs are being churned out by the load.
Earlier this year saw the release of ‘Show Dogs’, ‘Patrick’ and ‘Isle of Dogs’ while last year’s ‘A Dog’s Purpose’ went undamaged by what turned out to be false allegations about animal abuse on set (the video supposedly portraying the abuse was determined to have been deliberately edited to mislead viewers), as it managed to make over $204 million at the box office globally against a $22 million budget.
It’s hardly a surprise then that not only is a sequel to the 2017 hit is being produced called ‘A Dog’s Journey’, set for release in May 2019, but another novel from the author of ‘A Dog’s Purpose’ (W. Bruce Cameron, who helped adapt the screenplay and is also the author of the self-improvement book ‘8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter’, which was adapted into the hit sitcom of the same name) is also being brought to the big screen.
‘A Dog’s Way Home’ stars Bryce Dallas Howard, Ashley Judd, Jonah Hauer-King and Alexandra Shipp.
It “chronicles the heart-warming adventure of Bella [Howard], a dog who embarks on an epic 400-mile journey home after she is separated from her beloved human.” Along the way, Bella touches the lives of many, from an orphaned mountain lion cub to a homeless veteran down on his luck.
If you think that sounds like ‘Homeward Bound’, you’re not the only one but if that one got us crying – as did ‘A Dog’s Purpose’ – you can make a safe bet that this one will do the very same.
Charles Martin Smith (‘Dolphin Tale’, ‘Air Bud’) directs. The movie is scheduled for release in January 2019.
