It's been in the works for years but just when it looked like it was finally starting to take shape, the Freddie Mercury biopic has hit another snag. It's been reported by Deadline Hollywood that Dexter Fletcher, the director attached to the film, has reportedly dropped out and cited "creative differences" with the producers. The remaining members of Queen have given their rights to the film and have reportedly clashed with Fletcher.
Rumours suggest that Brian May and the other members of Queen haven't been happy with the fact that the producers of the film are aiming to make the film as no-holds-barred as possible. It's not known whether or not this was the reason why Fletcher or Baron Cohen have left the project.
Skyfall star Ben Whishaw is still on board to play the Queen frontman after Sacha Baron Cohen dropped out a few months ago. However, with the next Bond movie due to start filming in the next year or so, it's looking more and more likely that the Freddie Mercury biopic won't be happening any time soon.
The film, which will follow Mercury from his early days right up to Queen's triumphant performance at Live Aid in 1985. Any excuse to play this.
