In a slightly ironic move, studio chiefs have delayed the as-yet untitled standalone 'Flash' movie until 2021.
According to Variety's report, the movie has already gone through two screenwriters - although the movie itself was supposed to begin filming in March of this year. The current directors are John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, who wrote 'Spider-Man: Homecoming', and replaced 'Dope' director Rick Famuyiwa after he exited the project over creative differences in 2016.
To say that the DC Expanded Universe is in disarray is an understatement, and this news shouldn't be surprising. As it stands, Henry Cavill is out as Superman and Ben Affleck is likely to be replaced by someone else pretty soon. On top of that, you've got the not-at-all related 'Joker' movie with Joaquin Phoenix, there's also 'Birds Of Prey' with Margot Robbie, and you've got 'Aquaman' in there as the last vestiges of 'Justice League' in there as well.
The chaos of it all points towards 'Joker' being some kind of hard reset for all of the properties. In other words, how successful it will be will likely give Warner Bros. enough of an impetus to just chuck the whole thing out and start over - which, to be honest, is only a good thing.
