Although 'Moonlight' is invariably linked to the utter sh*t-show around the Oscars, Barry Jenkins' work was rightfully recognised and his follow-up, 'If Beale Street Could Talk', is already being pitched as an Oscar favourite for 2019.
The movie, based on the novel of the same by James Baldwin, follows a young couple (Kiki Layne and Stephen James) who are split when the man is accused of rape and the woman becomes pregnant with his child. Now in a race against time to exonerate him, she has to contend with being pregnant, battling the legal system that's out to keep them apart and much more besides.

'If Beale Street Could Talk' arrives in Irish cinemas on January 18th, 2019.
