Performing way beyond what was initially expected of it, 'arse-clenching' action flick The Raid was a massive hit both with audiences and at the box office. When reviewing it, our (former) Mike Sheridan gave it four and a half stars; not something he doled out frequently. Stripping back all unnecessary additives, The Raid delivered straight-up, no bullshit action and proved to be one of the most enjoyable cinematic experiences of 2012. Not surprising then that they'd come back with The Raid 2.
Director Gareth Evans has already kicked off proceedings on their 100 day shoot in Jakarta, Indonesia and this morning, we've been given a glimpse of what to expect. Moving beyond the confinements of the high-rise building in which almost all of the action in The Raid took place, The Raid 2 will pretty much pick up where we last left Rama (Iko Uwais).
This time round, Rama seeks to unearth and expose police corruption all the while protecting his family from harm. If these images are anything to go by, The Raid 2 WILL be, as Evans promises, 'bigger, bloodier and better' than its first outing. Bring it ON.
