While there's been other comic-book movies that have done well in the Oscars through the years, it might just be that 'Joker' is about to join them.
The new trailer showcases more of Joaquin Phoenix's unhinged, intense performance as the deranged Joker, and gives a bit more context to how it is that he comes to be. Marc Maron's also shown in the trailer with Robert De Niro as late-night chat show host Murray Franklin, taking a cue from Jerry Lewis' role in Martin Scorsese's 'The King of Comedy'.
You've also got Zazie Beetz, and Brett Cullen as Thomas Wayne, the billionaire father of - you guessed it - Bruce Wayne in there as well. By all accounts, Warner Bros. are pushing 'Joker' for Oscar glory, and its global release date of October 4th definitely puts in that ballpark.
To top it all off, it looks like a truly interesting and compelling take on comic-book characters, with Joaquin Phoenix throwing everything at it. We'll have a full review hopefully before October 4th, so keep an eye out for that.
In the meantime, check out the trailer.
