Ahead of the release of Ruby Sparks, the first film for its helmers - Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris - since the amazing Little Miss Sunshine six years ago, I had the pleasure of catching up with the married directors, the titular star and writer of the script, Zoe Kazan and actor Paul Dano (Zoe's on and off screen boyfriend).
Paul Dano is perhaps one of the best young actors working right now; he's just appeared in a small role in Looper with Joseph Gordon-Levitt, he starred as the taciturn teenager in Little Miss Sunshine, as well as appearing alongside Daniel Day-Lewis in There Will Be Blood. Zoe is the granddaughter of legendary diretor Elia Kazan (On The Waterfront and Street Car Named Desire) and she also starred as Meryl Streep's youngest daughter in hit comedy It's Complicated.
We had great chats abouts making this quirky little movie, writing a script with herself and Paul in mind while Jonathan and Valerie told me how they manage not to kill each other while working so closely on their projects. Apparently there's lots of drugs involved. *joke
Ruby Sparks hits cinemas this Friday.
