Emma Watson is the latest actress to be linked with the lead role in the film adaptation of the EL James smut-fest, 50 Shades of Grey.
According to, er, The International Business Times (via Digital Spy) Watson is the frontrunner for the part of Anastasia Steele; a young virgin who gets caught up in the world of BDSM when a billionaire takes a shine to her. I have not read the book, but pretty much every female I know has; reactions range from "OMFG it's totez amazeballz" to "that's the worst piece of crap I've ever read and "it's twilight with riding instead of fawning." Whatever the reaction, it's GETTING reactions and has sold a shitload of copies - hence Universal Pictures ponying up a small fortune to buy the rights. They do seem to be taking it seriously, with the appointment of Social Network producers Mike De Luca and Dana Brunetti. There were reports that Watson recently stormed off of the set of Jay and Seth Vs. the Apocalypse after scenes became too raunchy, so eh, they might wanna have her read the book first. Chris Pine is now the favourite for the male lead, Christian Grey.
A director is still being sought, but I wouldn't get my hopes up that Angelina Jolie will direct it - as some reports are suggesting.
