Emma Stone starrer The Help is quickly turning into one of the biggest sleeper hits of the year, as it went from second spot at the American box-office to first the following week and stayed there.
The film, about a young girl who makes a stand for African American's at a time in US history when it wasn't a popular thing to do, has so far grossed a mammoth $118 million domestically off of a $25 million budget. It's another home run for Stone, and the film is still topping the charts several weeks after it opened.
It was a poor weekend otherwise, as films took in low totals for a 4 day weekend, with both Apollo 18 and Shark Night 3D tanking. Although Sam Worthington starring thriller, The Debt, opened promisingly with a $14.4 million start. Word of mouth should carry that one through.
