Yes, Harry Potter is getting a spin-off, and no it won't feature anyone you knew and loved from the original as it is a prequel of sorts, set seventy years before Harry Potter's journey to Hogwarts even began.
The movie trilogy will be called 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' and is based on the Hogwarts textbook of the same name. It follows the adventures of its author, Newt Scamander, who Oscar winning actor Eddie Redmayne is currently in the running to play.
'The Theory of Everything' star is in fact the frontrunner, according to Variety, although Warner Brothers has yet to confirm. Come on though, he's this year's Oscar winner for actor in a lead role, we're sure they'd be only delighted to have him on board.
The spin-off will mark Harry Potter author JK Rowling's first screenwriting gig. She said of the trilogy; "Although it will be set in the worldwide community of witches and wizards where I was so happy for 17 years, ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ is neither a prequel nor a sequel to the ‘Harry Potter’ series but an extension of the wizarding world."
The first 'Fantastic Beasts' movie is scheduled for release in November, 2016.
