Eddie Muphy is rumoured to be in contention to bag the much-coveted hosting gig at next year’s Academy Awards. Last year’s ceremony was hosted by James Franco and Anne Hathaway and, as much as we like the pair, they failed to really gel and there were several awkward moments in their scripted “banter”. Murphy is apparently top of the list compiled by the Academy Awards producers, according to the LA Times, and is something of a surprise choice considering he hasn’t performed live in close to twenty years. It’s easy to forget considering some of the poor movie choices he’s made recently but Murphy is one of the most revered stand-up comedians in the history of the medium, so we think he’d do well. Or you can always give it back to Letterman, we’d be happy with that.
