The Twilight Saga: Eclipse took in a pretty spectacular $30 million from Tuesday night midnight screenings in America, according to Box-Office Mojo.
The film, which is easily the best of the franchise so far, beat the $26 million midnight launch of New Moon, which went on to coin about $164 million in its first five days. Eclipse opened on a Wednesday morning/Tuesday night, compared to New Moon's Friday bow, so while the weekend gross for the latest instalment will be less, over the same five day period Eclipse is expected to triumph.
30 Days of Night helmer David Slade has called the shots on Eclipse, and on that evidence, the producers should have moved heaven and earth to bring him back for the two-part Breaking Dawn.
