Roald Dahl's career as a children's author is easily one of the most successful and well-known.

Penning such classics as The Fantastic Mr. Fox, The Magic Finger, Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory, James And The Giant Peach, and The BFG, Dahl's stories have touched the lives of children young and old alike. It's been confirmed by Variety that Hugh Bonneville - best known for his leading role in Downton Abbey - has been cast as Roald Dahl in an upcoming biopic based on the latter part of his career.

The as-yet untitled biopic is based on the biogrpahy written by Dahl's wife, Patricia Neal, and their time together in the '60s when Dahl struggled to write some of his most noteworthy work whilst Neal returned to acting and starred alongside Paul Newman in Hud.

Variety's report describes it as in the vein of Saving Mr. Banks and Finding Neverland, so it's likely going to be positioned for an Academy Award season release.
