While this weekend is all about Stephen King's 'It: Chapter Two', it won't be long before the follow-up to 'The Shining', 'Doctor Sleep', hits cinemas.
Based on the 2013 novel of the same name, 'Doctor Sleep' picks up decades after the events of 'The Shining', where Danny Torrance - now played by Ewan McGregor - is drifting from town to town and dealing with alcoholism and rage. His 'shining' powers, it seems, have died off due to his drinking.
However, when he resolves to get clean, they come back to him and he begins to communicate with a child named Abra - played by newcomer Kyliegh Curran. At first, Danny, or Dan as he's now known, isn't keen on revisiting the past, but when a cult - led by an Irish woman named Rose, played by Rebecca Ferguson - is killing off people with the same powers, he's forced to confront them with Abra's help.
The movie is being written and directed by Mike Flanagan, who people will know best as the brains behind Netflix's 'The Haunting of Hill House', and the underrated adaptation of another Stephen King novel, 'Gerald's Game'.
Interestingly, 'Doctor Sleep' is going to attempt to bridge the gap between Stephen King's novel - which ended with the Overlook exploding and taking Jack Torrance with it - and Stanley Kubrick's movie, which saw the Overlook still standing at the end. Famously, Stephen King hated the ending of the movie, so much so that he actually adapted a screenplay and turned it into a TV miniseries.
Obviously, it's early days yet and it's not yet known how 'Doctor Sleep' will be received by King, or audiences who loved the original movie for that matter.
