Denzel Washington has been set to play the lead in a big screen version of the cult 80s TV series, The Equalizer.
The show centred on a brilliant and intense Edward Woodward, essentially being a one man A-Team and helping those in need of protection or justice. He handed many a criminal their arse - even though the show only ran for one season. A film version has been a long time mooted, with Russell Crowe at one point attached to star. No director has yet been named, but Deadline are saying the hugely impressive likes of Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive), Gavin O’Connor (Warrior) and Gareth Evans (The Raid) are all being considered for the thriller. The entertainment website are also saying that it will be the start of a possible franchise for Washington, who is keen to get the movie going; Sony have set an April start date for filming. The film will be based, most likely, in Boston.
I just about remember the series, and more recall Woodward's broody asskicking and that awesome opening theme than anything else. Have a gander at that below...
