We've been following Denis Villeneuve's career ever since 2013's Prisoners brought him into the mainstream, and each and every film he's made since this has been a critical hit.

Although Blade Runner 2049 didn't do the box office many expected it would, the film still has the benefit of being a worthy sequel to one of the most influential films ever made. Not surprisingly, the scuttlebutt ever since he finished work on Blade Runner 2049's has been about what he's doing next, and Villeneuve has finally gone on the record with The Playlist.

As they pointed out, Daniel Craig's first choice to direct his final outing as Bond was Villeneuve - but for the director himself, he's not so sure. "The thing is I don’t know about that, but listen, Daniel Craig is a very inspiring actor and I had some contact and the thing is that I’m busy right now doing Dune. But, I will say to have the privilege to work with him it would be a dream. I would love to work with Daniel and a Bond movie for me would be a treat. It’s a matter of timing, I guess."

As we previously reported, Villeneuve is now locked in to direct Frank Herbert's Dune and a full franchise is planned around it - so it's clear that he's got his hands full for the forseeable future with it. While that's him boxed off, the question remains - who will direct Bond 25?

Unless Christopher Nolan decides to break from Warner Bros. just to get his shot at it, it's unlikely we'll see him behind the camera for it any time soon.

Who do you think should direct Bond 25? Let us know in the comments!
