When you're struggling to secure a director for your franchise movie why not turn to an old friend? Particularly when said friend is one of the best filmmakers working today.
Brad Pitt is reportedly attempting to coax David Fincher into taking on the director reigns for the sequel to the 2013 zombie epic, World War Z.
Ordinarily you would say that it's highly unlikely Fincher would ever get involved with a franchise particularly after his experiences in making Alien 3. However according to Empire, Fincher is seriously considering coming on board and there are is nobody else currently holding an offer to direct the film.
If he does sign on, it will be the fourth collaboration between Fincher and Pitt after Se7en, Fight Club and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.
The film has a release date of June 9th 2017 however it's now highly unlikely that will be met and instead we should expect the film whether directed by Fincher or not to arrive sometime in 2018.
