Ever since Maleficent, The Jungle Book and Cinderella made huge bank for Disney, they're now pretty much set on working their way through the entire back catalogue and rejuvenating them for live-action.
It's not necessarily a bold move, but some of the films they've made so far have been quite spectacular. Pete's Dragon, for example, was a brilliant little family drama whilst The Jungle Book managed to make a familiar story into something truly unique. So it goes that the next up for live-actionification is Dumbo, the story of a circus elephant with big ears and a bigger heart.
Tim Burton has signed on to direct and Variety reports that Danny DeVito will be playing the ringmaster of the circus, with Eva Green due to sign on in the next while. Variety also reports that the role of the father is between Chris Pine and Will Smith, and that there's still a few key roles left to be cast.
DeVito and Burton, of course, worked together on the wonderfully weird Batman Returns back in 1992 whilst Eva Green starred in last year's Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children.
No release date has been set for Dumbo as of yet, but it'll likely be some time in 2019.
