No doubt there are actors out there who fear typecasting, but more specifically, will go out of their way to not be associated with the role that made them famous.
Robert Pattinson has all but shed his 'Twilight' career, as has Kristen Stewart - and it's the same for Daniel Radcliffe and 'Harry Potter' too. Since exiting the Wizarding World, Radcliffe has starred in everything from movies about neo-Nazis to his latest, a prison drama about a South African anti-apartheid activist.
In an interview with Variety, Radcliffe seemed fairly adamant that he's hung up his cape and wand for good - despite the fact that Warner Bros. are apparently keen to try and get 'Harry Potter & The Cursed Child' into cinemas at some point.
"I don’t like say no to things, but it’s not something that I’m rushing to do," Radcliffe said, when asked if he'd return as Harry Potter.
"I feel like those films have moved on and they’re doing just fine without us. I’m happy to keep it that way. I like what my life is now. I’m not saying that I’ll never go back into any franchise, but I like the flexibility that I have with my career now. And I don’t want to get into a situation where I’m signed up for one series for years in advance."
In fairness, that kind of rules out Radcliffe starring in a comic-book franchise as well. Many of the Marvel Cinematic Universe heavyweights, such as Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans, were signed up for multi-year deals and they're now increasingly the norm in blockbuster movies.
Like Pattinson, Daniel Radcliffe's probably happier than doing a small indie movie than walking back into that world again. More power to him, in that case.
