Each time there's a new bit of casting news for Ocean's Eight, it's always an interesting choice.
Already, Sarah Paulson, Mindy Kaling, Rihanna and Anne Hathaway have signed on for the female-driven caper sequel and now Variety reports that Homeland / Band Of Brothers alum Damian Lewis is close to signing on as the film's villain. According to on-set sources, Lewis will play Sandra Bullock's ex and the target of their robbery.
Early rumours suggested that Bullock will play George Clooney's sister, herself a career criminal who gathers together seven other women with the plan of robbing her ex of... well, something.
Lewis was sighted on set by photographers and was essentially thought to have a small cameo in the film, but it now appears he'll be joining the cast in a fuller capacity. He's an excellent choice; you'll only need to look at Band Of Brothers or Homeland to know that he can act and he's more than capable of doing comedy, too. Lewis hosted one of the best episodes in recent memory of Have I Got News For You and he's also appeared in the Vicar Of Dibley's Comic Relief special.
More recently, Lewis has turned up in Billions and BBC's adaptation of Wolf Hall, alongside Oscar winner Mark Rylance. Ocean's Eight is slated for a June 8th, 2018 release.
