Star Wars: The Force Awakens star Daisy Ridley is being touted as the frontrunner to play Lara Croft in the Tomb Raider reboot.
The 23 year old actress has come to prominence in the last six months thanks to her performance as the mysterious Rey in the latest installment of the Star Wars franchise and this has put her firmly in the running alongside several other actresses to lead the Tomb Raider reboot.
Based on the long running video game series, Tomb Raider follows Lara Croft, a brilliant English archaeologist, through a series of Indiana Jones like adventures across the globe. The role was famously played by the Angelina Jolie in the original film adaptation, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and it's sequel Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life.
The film reboot has been in development hell for several years now but was given a shot in the arm after the video game developer Square Enix rebooted the franchise with 2013’s Tomb Raider, which depicted Croft’s first adventure as an archaeology student. The positive reaction from fans has given the movie producers guidance on what form their reboot should take.
Aside from Star Wars Episode VIII and IV, Ridley currently doesn't have any other projects on her slate so this could be massive coup for her should she win the role.
