Close Encounters Of The Third Kind turns 40 later this year, so it's no surprise that there's been talk of a possible reboot or sequel to the film.
A trailer debuted on Sony Pictures Entertainment's YouTube channel which used animation and clips from the film, mixed with radar and sounds, that sparked rumours of such a reboot. As it turns out, thankfully, there isn't a reboot or a sequel - it's a theatrical re-release for its 40th anniversary.
The news was confirmed to Variety, who reported that Sony are planning to screen the film theatrically for a week in September. There's no word yet if the film will be screened in other countries outside of the US, but considering Close Encounters was such a landmark film and one of Spielberg's best, it seems very possible that it will.
Although the film was originally released on November 16th, 1977, the one-week 40th Anniversary release is heading out to cinemas on September 1st.
