Clint Eastwood, legendary director and actor left crowds baffled at a recent Republican National Convention.
The 82 year old Dirty Harry star was a surprise guest at the RNC last thursday. In his speech he praised GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney but spent most of his time on stage addressing a empty chair pretending it was President Obama.
The conversation between Clint Eastwood and an invisble Obama went like so
'So, Mr. President, how do you handle promises that you have made when you were running for election, and how do you handle them? I mean, what do you say to people? Do you just - you know - I know - people were wondering - you don't handle that OK. Well, I know even people in your own party were very disappointed when you didn't close Gitmo. And I thought, well closing Gitmo - why close that, we spent so much money on it. But, I thought maybe as an excuse - what do you mean shut up?'
Speaking about Presidents Obama election in 2008 he said 'Everyone was crying. Oprah was crying. I was even crying. .. I haven’t cried that hard since I found out that there are 23 million unemployed people in this country. Now that is something to cry for because that is a national disgrace and we haven’t done enough obviously'.Eastwood went on to criticise the Presidents policies concerning heathcare and the economy and went on to talk about dismissing Obama. For the full rambling speech you can watch below.
Many celebrities took to twitter following the speech baffled Mia Farrow tweeted 'What WAS that thing Clint Eastwood just did?' How could they let it happen?' While Frilm critic Roger Ebert said Eastwood came across as 'sad and pathetic'
The Obama camp have also reacted to the speech by tweeting 'this seats taken' with a picture of Obama's chair with the back of his head showing over the top.
