We've been following the pre-production for Christopher Nolan's follow-up to Interstellar with a lot of interest.

Already, casting has got underway with Mark Rylance, Kenneth Branagh and Tom Hardy lined up for major roles whilst one Harry Styles of some band called One Direction has been cast in a smaller role. Meanwhile, an unknown British actor by the name of Fionn Whitehead has been cast as one of the main protagonists whilst Jack Lowden - who's set to play Morrissey in the upcoming biopic - has been casting in a further supporting role.

Cork's own Cillian Murphy is the latest casting, making this his fifth film with Nolan since Batman Begins way back when. It's not yet known what role will Murphy will play, however with Peaky Blinders still on the road, they're obviously trying to work out the schedule to make sure he can do it.

The film is set to film in France itself and, as we reported, Nolan is actually dragging a real-life warship to a berth in Dunkirk for a May / June kick-off for production. The film covers Operation Dynamo and the rescue of over 300,000 British soldiers from advancing Nazi forces on the beaches of Dunkirk, France.

Operation Dynamo is considered to be one of the most daring rescue operations ever completed in naval history and was a turning point in World War II. Putting Christopher Nolan on a story like that, with a cast like this and a tentpole budget can only mean one thing - he's making a serious run for the Oscars.

Here's hoping he gets it.
